David R Snavely

Born in Canton, OH, David was raised in Massillon, where he developed the strong values of hard work, integrity, and service that would guide him throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose steady presence and quiet strength touched all who knew him.

David proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. During a distinguished career spanning 30 years, he worked as a health physicist specializing in the development of x-ray standards, contributing to advancements that helped protect public health and safety. He retired after three decades of honorable service.

Above all else, David treasured his family. He was blessed to share decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Janet S. Snavely (née Summerscale). Just days before his passing, they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary together, surrounded by the love and memories they had built over a lifetime.

David is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Jeffrey Snavely and his wife, Miranda of Apex, NC, Julie Snavely Aleman and her husband, Julio of Ashton, MD, and Carl Snavely; his grandchildren, Daniel, Noah, Aiden, Franco, and Janet; his brother, Richard Snavely of Massillon, OH; his brother-in-law, Reginald Summerscale of Arlington, VA; his nephews, Mark, Jack, Brian, Bruce, and John; his niece, Anne; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

David will be remembered for his dedication to family, commitment to public service, thoughtful nature, and the example he set through a life lived with purpose, humility, and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20904. A reception will immediately follow the service.
