Dr. Lindberg was the NLM director during my 20 years as an employee of the Index Section. I was impressed by his interest and support of diversity at NLM. He organized and participated in a very active Diversity Council of which I was a member and recording secretary for several y ears. I believe that his interest in diversity created a diverse workplace at NLM.

Dr. Lindberg was an extraordinary scientist, executive, physician, and educator. I was privileged to have his guidance for my entire career at NIH and his friendship beyond. His legacy in developing the discipline of medical informatics and in transforming the National Library of Medicine into a digital resource for the world will remain long after those of us whose lives he touched personally are gone.

I also know that Don was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and my thoughts and prayers are with you, Mary and family.

Dearest Mary and family,
I am so very sorry to hear the news of Dr. Lindberg's death.
I have very fond memories of my sister's wedding, visiting your home in Gaithersburg. I remember having driven to DC many years ago and enjoying a lovely dinner with your family. Afterwards. Dr Lindberg had to check out my car to be sure it was appropriate for my continued travels.
He truly was a giant both physically and mentally. I am so very sorry for your loss. Love. Mary Alice

Dr. Lindberg was a friend, a mentor, and one of the few true geniuses I’ve ever known. I would not be a physician if not for his early guidance and support. My condolences to his family. The world of science and medicine has lost a giant. May he Rest In Peace

My heart is heavy upon learning this news. Dr. Lindberg will always be remembered as the one who gave me my 1st job in the DC area. The Lindberg's and NLM welcomed me into their family and for that I am grateful. There is so much more I can say....but will reserve that for Mrs. Lindberg and the family. I miss you all. Love Julian
