Our girl made it. You’re forever her shooting star. 

Some say 7 is a lucky number. I remember taking this picture at her 7th birthday and thinking how far you came as a father, and how far we came as co-parents. I made us shirts, and you wore yours proudly. “Super Dad.” Not perfect, but “super” in your own way. 

Addie remembers you today. One year without you, but your memory embraces her for a lifetime. 🕊 

After Addie’s school let out for the summer, we’ve traveled to Key West, then Dry Tortugas National Park, then Miami, then a week later to Cape May. The sunrises and sunsets were beautiful, but we remember when you took her to Sunset Beach in North Carolina years ago. I know you would have lived near the beach if you could. Whenever we see a rainbow near the beach, we think of you. 

I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fact that you’re gone, and that’s okay. I’ve learned that grief is “love with no place to go.” I loved the father you grew to be to Addie. Addie and I are in Florida for her Spring Break. This is the state she and I have visited nearly every year since she was 3 months old. However, last year, you and her went on a daddy-daughter trip to Florida that was so special. She’ll never forget it. We keep the picture of you two from that trip on our refrigerator. You are missed. Your memory is with us wherever we go. 🌴 

There will never be words that can express the loss of an incredible life. Although we lost touch over the years, I always thought of Doug as a friend, from the days of Burtonsville Baseball through the rivalry of Blake vs. Springbrook. Coach Riggs and family express our sympathy and condolences. Rest In Paradise.

He was taken from us too. I can’t stop thinking how much richer my life was having crossed paths with his spunky old soul. Found one of my favorite photos to share. This song keeps playing and I just imagine you having ball up there with my mom…it’s the only thought brings me peace.

Prayers to the family, Doug left this world far too soon.  Doug taught our son how to swim probably 10-11 years ago.  I remember Doug telling us that he was waiting to hear if he was accepted into the police academy.  He was a wonderful young man filled with grace, kindness, and patience.   We are all so very sorry.  

This is one of my favorite photos of you Doug.  I wish I could turn back time.. instead I will always choose to remember you with the utmost love.

I’m going to miss you Doug. You were a great brother-in-law. 

We remember when Doug brought his car to our block and showed all the neighborhood kids his police car.  Our daughters thought he was so cool!  We remember him being very gentle and patient around our daughters and other kids.  He was very fun to talk to and we will cherish the time we spent together.  Our family will miss him greatly.

May you find comfort in your memories and love during this time.  I didn't know Doug well but whenever I did see him at the police academy he was always smiling.  
I'm so very sorry for your loss.  

In 2019, I took this picture of Doug and our daughter, Adalyn. He joined us at Cedar Ridge Community Church in Spencerville, MD for service. It was a beautiful day. I have hope that Adalyn will see her father again one day when Christ returns. Until then, I will raise her to honor her father’s memory. 

About 20 years ago, our family had to good fortune of meeting Doug. 
He was a swimming instructor for our daughter at the Olney pool; and, if I remember correctly, he was a lifeguard at the neighborhood pool.   He was a quiet and pleasant teenager.  We didn't get to know him well, but we saw that the kids loved him and appreciated him as he helped them build their skills and confidence in the water.     

Doug contained so many persons in himself. He was a son, a brother, a uncle, a cousin, a father, a friend, a servant, a pupil, a teacher, a good neighbor, a devoted police officer & a forever, well-recognized Washington Commander’s fan.   May we all continue to rise from our season of grief, treasure the memories & precious gifts Doug left us - Adalyn & Caden. 
Heavenly Father, God of all compassion, comfort us in our sorrow following the sudden death of Doug.  Help us to find hope in your steadfast love; give us wisdom to face all the challenges & circumstances of life with Doug’s tragic transition so that we may be vessels for Adalyn & Caden’s life journeys here on earth. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

We were very sorry to learn of Douglas passing so young.  We remember seeing him on the front lawn playing with the dog.  He is home now.  May  he rest in peace.

Ginnie, Mike, and Adalyn,

The passing of Doug tugs at our heartstrings.  Please accept our condolences during this time.  We were so blessed to have known Doug and Adalyn during our last years in Silver Spring and grateful for all the times he picked up Mirah for play dates with Adalyn.  I’ll never forget his willingness to help with the outreach ministry at First Alliance Church and giving Mirah confidence on her bicycle.  Doug was definitely one of the good guys and will be greatly missed.

We want to express our deepest sympathy to the entire Haggerty family following Doug's tragic passing.  We have lived directly across the street from the Haggerty family for well over thirty years and have been privileged to see Doug grow from a toddler, to a teen, to the strong man and loving father that he has been for many years.  We will miss looking across the street and seeing Doug mowing the lawn, playing with Katie, or just standing in the driveway talking to his mother or father.
