Born October 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward Temple Hooper, Sr., and Laura Mae Hampton. Edward was born and raised in Richmond, VA, and began working as a teenager making maps for the Government. When the war broke out in 1941, he joined the Merchant Marine and later the Navy to transport military personnel and supplies for the war effort. After returning from the war, Edward was employed by the Federal Government at the Naval Ordnance Lab in White Oak, MD.

Other than his skills at drawing and painting, Edward enjoyed traveling and camping on the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. He also enjoyed camping at the beach.
As a Christian he was an active member of the church, serving various roles from deacon to teaching bible classes. His faith never wavered, even to his last days.
He was predeceased by Jean Eleanor Hooper, his wife of 55 years, and his firstborn son, Stephen Edward Hooper.
