Effie Bourdosis (Calomeris) age 102, of Ellicott City, Maryland passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Effie was born May 02, 1919 in Washington, D.C. to Maria and Peter J. Calomeris who were from Sparta, Greece.
Effie is survived by her daughter Margo (Basil) Lambros and her son Peter Bourdosis; two sisters-in-law, Maria Calomeris and Georgette Calomeris; her grandchildren Stacey (Brian) Tombs, Ana (Michael) Lazos, and Christina Bourdosis; and her great grandchildren Nickolas, Michael, Leah, Stelios and Sambiko. She will also be missed by many other nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Nicholas Bourdosis, and seven siblings: Christopher Calomeris, Helen Kouis, Anna Sakadales, Martina Chaconas, Jane Bursenos, James P, Calomeris, and Louis P. Calomeris. She was also predeceased by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Effie and Nick worked together in their GW Coffee Shop for many years after they first married, and later on they had a common workplace at Vitro Corporation. They both enjoyed traveling together, working crosswords, and dancing. They even met Sammy Kaye. While Nick was into golf, Effie loved fine handwork and game-playing (especially Rummikub), but most of all they loved being with family.
A viewing for Effie will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home (11800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.) A trisagion service will occur during the viewing but time is TBD, please check back for updates. The funeral service will be on Friday, October 29th at 11:00 AM at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox church of Washington, DC (721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, Md. 20905). Internment and a graveside service will follow at Parklawn Memorial (12800 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, Maryland 20853.)
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Effie's memory may be made to the building fund of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington DC (721 Norwood Rd, Silver Spring, Maryland 20905)
