Elsie Desmangles, age 59, passed away at her assisted living residence on Friday morning, August 7, 2026, in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was born on January 3, 1967, in Port-Margot, Haiti, to the late Yolande Telusma and Beaumanoir Jean-Baptiste, and was also lovingly raised by her adoptive mother, Anne Marie Altagrace Michel. Between her biological and adoptive families, Elsie was part of a family of twelve children. Elsie is survived by her two children and her husband, Jean Robert Desmangles.
Elsie came to the United States of America in 1984, where she met and fell in love with her husband, Jean Robert. The two got married on July 28, 1990 and had been together for 36 years. In her early years of being in America, she worked as a nanny and babysitter, and then went on to work as a server in one of Marriott’s Bethesda locations.
Elsie was well known for her strong faith in Jesus Christ, loyalty, commitment, patience, positivity, her welcoming and loving spirit, and for being a phenomenal employee. She was a God fearing woman, had an aura of goodness, a contagious laugh, and a smile that lit up the room. Alongside being a devoted wife and mother, she was a devoted Christian and active member at First Evangelical Haitian Church. She sang in the Believers Women group and in the mixed choir at the church. She also helped prepare the communion trays on Communion Sundays.
Elsie was very neat, orderly, clean, and had an eye for interior design. In her free time, she enjoyed clothes shopping, buying furniture and art to rearrange her home to her liking, gardening, and spending quality time with her friends and family.
Elsie is survived by her husband, Jean Robert; her children, Kaitland and Jean Myrtho; her niece, Flore Vania, whose love, care, and support meant so much to her; and her grandson, Lee.
