
Eugene (Gene) Lee, born on August 27, 1948, in Washington, D.C , passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024 at age 76. He leaves behind a legacy of service to others, warmth, strength, and community building.
Gene attended high school at St. Johns College & High School, graduating in 1967 and the NY School of Photography. A man of many talents, Gene was a skilled photographer, who spent over 20 years working in the dark room at PhotoGroup studio. His love of travel, family and friends was captured in his many black/white and colored photos. Later, he pursued his passion for food and hospitality as the co-owner of Giuseppi's Pizza, a neighborhood favorite, where he welcomed guests with warm service and delicious pizza. To all who entered Giuseppi's, they were welcomed by Gene’s contagious smile and kind manner. Gene made Giuseppi's Kentlands more than just a restaurant; it was a gathering place enriched by his kindness.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gene held a black belt in karate and was deeply committed to teaching the art. Known for his discipline and patience, he mentored students of all ages, inspiring many with his dedication and love for martial arts. His influence in the dojo left a lasting impact, encouraging others to cultivate confidence, respect, and resilience.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Sierra Lee; his son, Jacob Lee; his loving former wife, Julie Clyman; his two cherished sisters, Rita Palmer and Susie Bellefielle; and his beloved mother, Ngan “Fong” Lee and his late father Soo Chuck Lee. He will be remembered for his gentle, optimistic and humble spirit, and his dedication to serving his karate community.
Gene will forever be remembered as a loving father, devoted son, brother, loyal friend, supportive coach, and strong warrior. Gene will be dearly missed and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
