Franklin was born on March 29th, 1939 to Archibald Milton and Althea Walters. His given name is Franklin Townsend Maurice Milton. He never used Maurice and was affectionately called “FT.” He grew up with three of his brothers, but had many brothers and sisters. Close to his heart is his sister Beverly, who has no problem telling you at times he was like a father to her.
He left St. Ann and came to the city (Kingston) where he pursued an education in nursing and graduated from the Kingston School of Nursing. Prior to that he worked for the island’s largest newspaper “The Gleaner Company.”
The most fascinating chapter of his life began when he met and fell head over heels in love with his deceased wife Amy. Together they raised nine girls and two boys. On completion of his nursing education he worked for the government at the island’s largest and really only psychiatric hospital. We all knew where he worked as he would come home with tell-tale signs.
Franklin joined his wife in the United States in 1993 and grew to love his new country and eventually became a citizen. He was a major part of grandchildren lives and got to spend time with the new arrivals- the great grandchildren.
Franklin loved life and loved people. He saw every birthday, special achievement as an opportunity to have a cookout or family dinner. He valued education and encouraged it. One of his favorite sayings was “I am one of the ten most educated men in the world.”
His favorite book of the Bible was proverbs which he had completed and had started reading again. He loved the Lord and now he starts an even more fascinating chapter as he goes home to be in the kingdom of God and is reunited with his beloved Amy.
