Gary was one of my oldest friends. We were close friends since we met at about 12 years old, through high school, and after. His wife, Lissa, and I lived only about a block apart in those days. We spent many great times together. Gary was one of the best friends I ever had. I had lost contact with them long ago. I only saw them one time in the 80s, and never since, though I thought of them often. I just heard of their passing tonight. I am very sad to hear of this, and sorry that I had not seen them in so long. My condolences to their family.

I first met Gary when I moved to Silver Spring in 1960. We were in 5th grade and became best buds from the get go. We were brothers in arms and felt like part of each other's families. Grew up together, in Boy Scouts together, went to the 1964 New York World's Fair together - twice, travelled across the country together with his brother Bob, got in trouble together a few times but always had a lot of laughs.
Lissa was my new neighbor and that's where they first met, as kids. I travelled to Indiana with a truckload of mutual friends for their wedding. I remember some hilarious Croquet games in their Takoma Park backyard.
Some time had passed since we'd seen each other when I heard recently that Lissa passed. I spoke with Gary just 2 days later, he had just returned home from a couple weeks in the hospital. Although he was understandably shaken, we shared some old memories and I asked him to let me know about any plans for a memorial for Lissa. That was the last time we spoke. I'm thankful we had that moment to reconnect and reminisce.
Miss you both dearly,
yer pal Dick
