Trudy passed peacefully on April 25, 2020 at the Kensington Park Senior Living Facility in Kensington, MD. Born in Kimswick, MO, on July 5, 1928, she was preceded in death by her father Conrad Frederick Straher, her mother Barbara Victoria Haefner; a brother and sister; and her husband Nelson Howard Shapiro. She is survived by her three children Marcia Ann Jacques and her husband, Paul; Judith Shapiro Fitzgerald, and Richard Shapiro and his wife, Katherine (Katie); five grandchildren, Brandon, Shannon, Daniel, David, and Brian; and three great grandchildren, Hailey, Layla, and Brynn.
Trudy and her husband enjoyed an extensive amount of travelling during their retirement. They also enjoyed splitting time between their Rockville, MD, and Ocean City, MD, homes.
Trudy enjoyed cooking, animals, fishing, reading, sewing, cross stitching, ceramics, crafts, a good joke, conversations with family and friends, and following the lives of her family. Through the years she had been a Girl Scout troop leader, drove a school bus, hosted many Tupperware parties, sold World Book Encyclopedias, worked at Giant Food, and owned a dress shop in Dallas, TX. Whatever the endeavor, Trudy was very detail oriented and a perfectionist.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. The center of her life was always her family.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, there will be a private graveside service on Thursday, April 30, for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.
