Dr. Gwendoline Stephenson Mitchell, widow of the late Honorable George W. Mitchell, Associate Judge of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, was
born in Buxton, Guyana, South America, in 1931.
She came to the United States in 1954 to attend Howard University. She graduated with a BS in 1958. She taught at Howard University Medical school during her internship for her Master’s Degree from Howard University. She worked at the Howard University Child Development Center from 1966 until her
retirement in 1983. During that time, she received her PhD in Nutrition from Howard University.
She is survived by her son George, daughter Renee, grandchildren Ethan, Joshua, Georgia, and Robert.
