
She was 102 years old.
Hazel was born on March 1, 1921, to Horace William and Ettie Bull in Queensland, Australia. Hazel grew up in Roma, was an excellent tennis player, and was very involved with Tennis Clubs. She graduated from Queensland State Teachers College and traveled by horse daily to teach her 6th-grade class in Roma, Australia.
Hazel met her husband Izzy in 1943 at a Shul-sponsored dance in Brisbane. They were married on May 10, 1944. Hazel traveled to the United States on the Knox Victory Ship as a new war bride. She took a train from Long Beach, California, to Union Station in Washington, DC, to begin her life as a homemaker in Silver Spring, MD. Izzy would later move the family to Chevy Chase in 1958.
Hazel is preceded in death by her sister Olga Lifter (Sheldon) and Isadore Fischer (Izzy), her husband of 60 years, who died in 2004.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Ross Fischer, Jody Manischewitz (Jack), and Hal Fischer (Molly), seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at 12 noon at Judean Memorial Gardens, Olney, MD.
