Irene Ruseckas Boezi of Silver Spring, MD, devoted wife, aunt, and friend, died peacefully on May 8, 2025 after a sudden illness. She was born on April 7,1939 in Duryea, PA to Matthew and Nellie Drugalis Ruseckas. After graduating from Duryea High School in 1956 she attended Marywood University majoring in Elementary Education and graduated in 1960. She immediately began her career in Prince Georges County, MD teaching fourth grade. She was forever the teacher to young children often counseling parents and children that “repetition precedes and strengthens learning”. She married the love of her life, Louis J. Boezi, on December 26, 1961. They relocated to Montgomery County, MD in 1967 and Burnt Mill Hills in the White Oak area in 1977.
Irene had a keen interest in community affairs and served on the Montgomery County’s Community Advisory Committee for the development of the White Oak Master Plan in 1997. Later she was instrumental in the multi community organizing efforts to respond to the closing of the Naval Surface Weapons Center in White Oak, and she participated in the formulation of the County recognized Labquest committee as the representative from the Burnt Mills Hills Citizens Association for a number of years. She was an extremely charitable person and a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and was proud of her Lithuanian heritage.
Irene adored dogs, and was mom to many a Britany, Labrador, and German Shorthaired Pointer over the years. Irene and Lou were one of four founding families of the Silver Spring Stage in Four Corners where she did set and costume designs for the various productions throughout the years. Her natural flair for interior design inspired an interest in Asian antiques and the ancient technique of cloisonné. A talented jewelry designer and maker, she had a discerning eye for unique pieces, trends, and bargains.
Irene is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Louis J. Boezi. She is also survived by two nieces, 2 grand nieces, a grand nephew, and one great-grand niece. Her beautiful smile and big heart will be missed by all who knew her.
