Irma Judith Alperin
June 22, 1935 – December 16, 2018
Having lived a vibrant, loving, independent and healthy life for 83 years, Irma Alperin passed away suddenly on December 16, 2018. Irma was born on June 22, 1935, in Boston, MA to the late Arthur Levine and Charlotte “Lottie” [Golmansky] Levine. She was sister to the late Doralie “Dozy” [Levine] Segal.
After graduating from Brookline High School (Brookline, MA) in 1952, Irma attended Connecticut College. While a student at Connecticut College, Irma met the love of her life, Harvey Albert Alperin, who was working nearby at U.S. Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory in New London, CT. Immediately after graduation from Connecticut College in 1956, Irma and Harvey were married and soon moved to Maryland. They built a loving home in Ashton, MD, where they raised their two children, Michael Evan Alperin and Sharon Ann [Alperin] Coale.
Irma and Harvey moved to Fairhaven retirement community in Sykesville, MD, in 2005, where they quickly expanded their community of loving friends.
Irma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harvey A. Alperin, of Sykesville, MD, son Michael E. Alperin, of Austin, TX, daughter Sharon A. [Alperin] Coale of Highland, MD, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Grandchildren Sarah Marie [Coale] Simoff, Rebecca Leigh [Coale] Brew and Max Aaron Coale are children of Frank and Sharon [Alperin] Coale. Grandchildren Tara Shannon Alperin and Jenny Rose Alperin are daughters of Michael E. Alperin and Carol Elaine [Sager] Alperin. Great-grandson Jackson Chase Brew is the son of Rebecca Leigh [Coale] Brew and Sean Edward Brew.
Family and friends may pay their respects by joining the family for a funeral service on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 1:00pm at the Memorial Chapel at Judean Memorial Gardens, 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, MD 20832, with internment at Judean Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. The family will be receiving friends and observing shiva at the residence of Frank and Sharon Coale, 13545 Paternal Gift Drive, Highland, MD 20777, after the completion of the services on Thursday, December 20th and again on Friday, December 21st from 1:00 to 5:00pm with shiva service at 3:00pm.
Nana loved all things in nature that flourished and flowered, so her family suggests that in her memory, and in lieu of flowers, you plant a tree or flowering plant for all to enjoy in the years ahead.
