Born on April 14, 1954, in Olney, MD, Tom was raised by Carroll and Betty Harding. After graduating from Sherwood High School, he went into drafting which led him to a career as a Licensed Land Surveyor for the Commonwealth of Virginia with VIKA for 43 years. He married June MacNaughton in 1979, and together they had two daughters, in 2011 he married Sasha Gonzalez, gaining three bonus children (adopting the two youngest in 2023).
As a father, Turk was the steady hand that guided his children through every storm. His heart must’ve been the size of Secretariat’s due to the fact he would drop everything if you called in need of an ear, a shoulder, a sounding-board, or just a moment of laughter. He taught his children to work hard, treat all people fairly, and never take themselves too seriously. To quote a few of his favorite movies: “There’s no crying in baseball!”, “Everything is temporary!”, and “Have fun storming the castle!”
Turk enjoyed his cigars, Westerns (horses!), having family over, sports, and nearly every genre of music. He was also known for being able to make all who met him feel loved and accepted - “A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet.” Anyone who met him knew of his love for Corvettes – a proud charter member of the G-Burg Vette Club (GBV), “the journey continues.”
His legacy lives on through his children: Allison (and Ray), Julia, Giovanni, Celicia; bonus grandson: Sawyer; siblings: Jane, Wil (and Jeanni), and Jim; and a multi-generational family who lovingly called him “Uncle Turk”. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
Services will be held 12pm to 6pm at the family home on July 11, 2026. In lieu of flowers, bring memories/photos to share.
