Jean W. Jones, the daughter of the late John W. Talbott and Corean O. Talbott was born in Skippers, Virginia on July 1, 1933. In 1934 her family moved to Catonsville, Maryland. At an early age she displayed a thirst for knowledge and was educated at the Lincoln Academy Secondary School for African American children in North Carolina. Upon graduation from the Lincoln Academy, she attended Morgan State University where she received a Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics. On June 8, 1955 she was united in holy matrimony to Louis Anthony Jones Sr. This union was blessed with three sons. Beginning in 1955 she established an impressive career of Federal Government service working as a mathematician and computer analyst until her retirement in 1990. Her career included positions at Aberdeen Proving Ground, The Internal Revenue Service and The Federal Reserve. In addition, she also worked for IBM. After retiring from government work, Jean began a second career preparing taxes for H&R Block, where she had a loyal following of clients. She also worked in the family owned business, Comfy Clean Corporation.Jean firmly believed in the power of hard work and education as a weapon to battle oppression, ignorance and poverty. She was a steadfast and active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for more than 50 years earning her place as a Golden Soror. In 1969 she joined the Theta Omega Omega Chapter of Montgomery County. In this chapter she held several positions, most notably serving as treasurer for Ivy Vine Charities Inc. As further demonstration of her commitment to the importance of education and her generosity of spirit, on September 1, 2017 she was awarded a Lifetime Membership by the Morgan State University Alumni Association. Jean was a loving and devoted wife mother and grandmother. She dedicated herself to the well-being of her family and friends. Her benevolence knew no bounds.Jean W. Jones departed this life on February 14, 2019. She is survived by her husband, Louis A. Jones Sr.; two brothers, Robert Talbott and Winston Talbott; her three sons, Louis A. Jones Jr., Prof. Darryl V. Jones, and Dr. Michael E. Jones; daughter-in-law, Cathleen Trigg Jones; six grandchildren, one great grand daughter and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
