Jeffrey Craig Fortune, 59, of Silver Spring, Maryland peacefully slipped away to be with the Lord, early Friday morning, November 30, 2018 at his home. He was born on September 25, 1959 in Washington, DC to Rosie and Oliver Fortune, Sr. He was the youngest of four children.
Jeffrey accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age uniting at Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Virginia. He loved the Lord and knew God for himself. He later joined Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, DC and was a faithful member until his health began to fail.
He graduated from Suitland Senior High School in Suitland, Maryland. After graduation he worked at Jones Day law firm for many years and from there he worked at Federal Express until retirement. After retirement he enjoyed pitching horseshoes with his cousin Ronnie, doing art work, gardening, biking, and other outdoor activities as well as walking and taking care of his special best friend, (his dog) Chase and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed coaching his two children Derie and Victoria and also mentored the neighborhood kids.
Jeffrey loved his neighbors and was known as the Mayor in his community and was called Pops by some. He enjoyed barbecuing and entertaining his family and friends. Jeffrey lived life to the fullest and was well loved by all. He had a way of making everyone feel right at home.
He leaves to cherish his memories to a devoted and loving wife of 30 years, Marilyn Fortune, two children, James (Derie) Glenn and his loving and caring daughter Victoria Fortune who was always by his side, and survived by his mother whom he loved very much, Rosie Vaughan (James); father Oliver Fortune, Sr. (Rosetta); one sister, Yolanda Giles (Robert); and two brothers Ira Fortune (Emily); and Oliver Fortune, Jr. He leaves also to mourn a nephew Rashad Giles, and nieces Nicole Fortune and Channel Cabiness, Kristian Beard, Christopher Beard; Brandon Beard, Briana Applewhite and Kiana Wilson; his uncle Lawrence Johnson (Diane); Aunt Emma Johnson and Joan Presbury (Alfred) a host of other relatives and lifetime friends.
