Jennifer Moy of Burtonsville, MD, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2020. She was the beloved daughter of Barbara and Don Sweeney, and the beloved sister of Jason and Jonathan. Jennifer is survived by her sisters-in-law, Lisa and Nike as well as her nieces, Sarah, Jessica, Sophia, Maylin, and her nephews, JP, Isaac, and Luke. Jennifer is also survived by her longtime significant other, Milton, whose dedication and care for her was unfailing. She also is survived by her faithful companion for the entire 5 years of her illness. Charlie is a Goldendoodle who came into Jennifer’s life when he was just a puppy. He never left her side and she adored him.
For the first 12 years of her life, she lived with her family in the Baltimore suburbs. When her father was transferred to Washington, DC, the family moved to Silver Spring. Across the street from their home was a family who owned horses. The daughter of the family who was close to Jennifer’s age became a close friend. She introduced Jennifer to Pony Club where Jennifer learned to care for horses and to ride. When her parents bought her her own horse, she needed to find a boarding facility. She chose one in the neighborhood called Windsor Manor. It was run by a young lady just a few years older than Jennifer. That was the beginning of another lifelong friendship. Jennifer became a member of the Windsor Manor family as well as her friend’s entire family. Jennifer helped with horse camps and continued to develop her own skills as an equestrian. Over the years, she performed well in many competitions.
When she moved to Silver Spring, she needed to change schools. She was enrolled in St. John’s Episcopal School in Olney, MD. Her eighth grade class consisted of 8 boys and 1 other girl. Jennifer and she developed another lifelong friendship and they both later joked that it was a good thing they liked each other. The two went on to attend the same high school and were inseparable. As they went off to college, their paths diverged. Their friendship, however, never waned and in recent years blossomed once again.
Jennifer’s path took her into nursing. She earned a B.S. in nursing in 1990. She was offered an internship at the Washington Hospital Center. In 1998, she earned a Master’s Degree and went on to become a Nurse Practitioner. She began her decades long career first as an RN in the ICU and Cardiac Cath Lab. She ended her career as a Cardiac Surgery Nurse Practitioner where she developed many deep friendships that have lasted throughout her illness. She excelled in the areas of precepting, mentoring, writing teaching manuals as well as many more specific leadership roles. She was the point person when the hospital changed from manual charting to electronic charting.
Jennifer loved adventure and in her short life was able to travel to many countries, including Egypt, Greece, Germany, and Iceland. In February 2018, Jennifer fulfilled a lifelong dream when she and her parents went on a safari to Tanzania which had been organized by another of her close friends.
Even after she could no longer work, she maintained close contact with her multitudes of friends. She will be remembered for her easy smile, joyous laugh, quick wit and fighting spirit. She loved her rambunctious dog, Charlie. She loved the ocean, especially her family’s home in Myrtle Beach.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18th. Flowers may be sent to Ashton Baptist Church. Donations may be sent to Ashton Baptist Church www.cccashton.org or to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance at www.ocrahope.org
