OBITUARY
Joseph William Glaser
January 30, 1951 – May 11, 2022
IN THE CARE OF
Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home
The Generations After mourns the passing of Dr. Joseph Glaser, husband of Gene Glucksman. Joe was a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, the State University of NY at Stony Brook, and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. In his professional career he worked on isotope enrichment at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before coming to Washington, DC to work in the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Physics.
Joe was proud of his efforts in the Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) Transparency Program figuratively “turning swords into plowshares” by dismantling Russian nuclear weapons for peaceful energy production. He retired in December 2020.
Joe was the son of two Holocaust survivors from Poland. He and Genie married in December 1982. Joe loved to travel and was a “culture vulture” who enjoyed film, music, theater, and museums. He was also a practical joker with an impish sense of humor.
Joe is survived by his wife Genie, son Mark, and sister Betty Glaser-Kshensky. A funeral service will be held at Tikvat Israel (2200 Baltimore Rd, Rockville, Maryland 20851) on Sunday, May 15, at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Judean Memorial Gardens in Olney, MD. The family asks that all attendees wear masks while at the service in the synagogue.
The family will join the Tikvat Israel Minyan on Zoom from Sunday through Thursday at 7:30 pm.
May Genie and all of Joseph's family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem, and may he be remembered for a blessing.
