

Kunjoonjamma Oommen Veppumthara was born on October 21, 1945, in Puliyoor Pynumkoottil, Kerala, India to Gee Varghese Oommen and Mariamma Oommen. She was the eldest of four children, following the loss of three siblings. After her father’s tragic death at the age of 16, she left home to provide for the family. Following Puliyoor Government High School, she studied at the Edward King Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, to become a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife. She served in North India and Zambia, caring for others with compassion and dedication. She worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C. for 31 years before retiring and proudly served in the nursing field for 45 years.
Kunjoonjamma and the late Oommen George Veppumthara were married for 37 years before his passing in 2012. Together they raised two children, Abraham and Mariam. She loved hosting family gatherings, making holidays and celebrations special, tending to her garden, and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandson, Vince. Known for her generosity and selflessness, she helped many members of her family and her late husband's family immigrate to and establish lives in the United States, creating opportunities that have benefited generations to come.
Kunjoonjamma will be remembered for her kindness, strength, compassion, unwavering faith, and devotion to her family. The love she shared, the lives she touched, and the family she nurtured will remain her enduring legacy.
