Mr. Lawrence J Murphy Jr.

Lawrence Joseph Murphy, Jr. of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at the age of 86. He was born on August 19, 1933 in Kingston, NY to Lawrence Joseph Murphy and Elizabeth Beshock. Lawrence spent 10 years in the United States Air Force before retiring from a successful career in the National Weather Service. He was married for 62 years to the great love of his life, Rita Mae Murphy, who preceded him in death in 2020.

Left behind to carry on Lawrence’s legacy are his sister Carol Harper; children Mary (sp. Joseph), William (Joe) (sp. Lynn), Margaret (Peggy) (sp. Kevin), Amy (sp. Brian), Rita (sp. Michael), Cathy (sp. Steven) and Teresa (sp. John); along with 16 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Lawrence lived a full and happy life, full of love, friends, and family. He had great passion for music, traveling and entertaining. He was known and appreciated for his quick wit and sense of humor. He truly never met a stranger. He touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity.

A celebration of life for Lawrence will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass in his memory and take care of each other during this time of crisis.
