

Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 19, 1929, Leroy lived a life defined by service, strength, devotion, and deep love for his family. At just 16 years old, he joined the United States Army, beginning a distinguished military career that would span decades. A proud veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Leroy retired honorably from the Army after dedicated service to his country.
Following his military retirement, Leroy continued serving others through education. He became a beloved school teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools and later served as Head of the Gateway Alternative School. He earned his Master’s Degree and retired from education after making a lasting impact on countless students and families.
Leroy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret Wrenn Hansley. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with love, resilience, and shared devotion to family.
He is survived by his sons, Le Roy Hansley Jr. (Lisa); and El Roy A. Hansley (Kim); grandchildren Alexa, Anthony, Ryan and Tara Hansley; and his sister Meryl Small; He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
Leroy lived life fully and with enthusiasm. He loved staying active at the gym, spending time at the family beach house in Ocean City, traveling the world, and hosting lively gatherings for family and friends around his backyard pool. His home was a place of laughter, celebration, and connection.
Above all else, his grandchildren were his greatest joy. He adored them completely and spoiled them shamelessly. They were his pride, his heart, and his legacy.
Leroy will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, respected veteran, dedicated educator, and loyal friend. His strength, generosity, and love will live on in the many lives he touched.
Visitation will be held at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE, SILVER SPRING, MD 20904, US, on March 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Le Roy will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
