With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Leda Bazile, affectionately known to many as “Mommy Da” and “Grandma.” Leda was born on September 2, 1938, in Jacmel, Haiti, to Françoise Lauture and Brénord Bazile. At the age of nine, she moved to Port-au-Prince, where she spent much of her youth before later immigrating to the United States on August 7th, 1992. Leda was a talented hair stylist who took pride in helping others look and feel their best. Her caring spirit extended far beyond her profession. She devoted much of her life to serving as a home care provider, lovingly caring not only for her own grandchildren but also for many children and families in her community. To countless people, she became a second mother and grandmother. Even today, many proudly and affectionately call her “Grandma” or “Mommy Da.” Some of those lives she touched are gathered here today, a testament to the lasting impact of her love, guidance, and nurturing spirit. Leda found joy in life's simple blessings. She was a lifelong usher in the church community. She loved attending church, listening to music, dancing, and spending time with her family. Her laughter, wisdom, and warm embrace made everyone feel welcome. She had a special gift for bringing people together and creating a sense of home wherever she was. Whether she was ushering at church, caring for a child, sharing wisdom with her family, or catching up on the latest news from Tante Celie, Fouco, and InfoBertho, Mommy Da had a way of making everyone feel seen, loved, and connected.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever. She was the beloved mother of Rodrigue, Kettly, Joseph Frantz, Marie Djenane, Marie Coffy, and her adopted daughter, Solange. She is remembered by her stepsons and daughter, Minouche Michael, and Steve. She was a treasured grandmother to Jennifer, Nathalie, Kenny, Jason, Rodney, Denzel, Jessica, Corey, Cayla, Jovire, Ludmilla, and Nevaeh, and a proud great-grandmother to Azai , Emira, Denzel Jr., and Jasar. She is also lovingly remembered by her step-grandchildren Edzer, Myrna, Mickelson, Laureen, Julia, Xavier and step great granddaughter, Remedy, along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones.
Though our hearts grieve her passing, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, faith, and unconditional love. Her memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew her.
