On August 19, 2021, our mom, Lorna Sison Bituin, passed away at the age of 71. She is preceded in death by her father, Salvador Q. Sison. She goes before her two sons, Arnold and Dennis, her mother Rosario, eight siblings and in-laws: Mira & Jerry Blotsky, Nilda & Zeus Paredes, Fred & Eva Sison, Loren & Richard Dyas, Rita & Fernando Garcia, Joji & Barry Wendel, Alita & John Day, and Sancho & Majella Sison, as well numerous nephews and nieces, and grandnephews and grandnieces.
Our mom was born on February 20, 1950 in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Santo Tomas, one of the oldest universities in the world. After a five-year courtship, she married her sweetheart, Sonny, (or as she calls him, “Nee”) in April of 1974. Nee was her one, true love. They teamed up to raise us, while running two businesses and being active in church. In the early 90s, they decided to move to the United States and eventually settled in Silver Spring, Maryland. She worked for various companies and organizations, including Adventist HealthCare where she worked in Human Resources. She was also active with McLean Bible Church (MBC) where she co-led a women’s small group. Prior to MBC, she was a member of Life Giving Church of God and Christ our Savior Church.
Our mom was known to be sweet, hospitable, and caring. She constantly sought out those who were in need and tried to help as much as possible. She had a strong faith in God, which kept her steady through the toughest of trials, especially when our dad passed away in October of 2006. “God is in control,” she would always say. We are so happy she has put her trust in Jesus.
Now, through our toughest of trials, we say that God is in control. We may not understand why this happened, but we know God’s promises are true. Though we are all grieving, we are comforted by the fact that she is now in the presence of Jesus and enjoying her reunion with Nee.
