Marjorie “Marge” Koff Levy passed away on July 27, 2026. She was born on April 23, 1935. Marge is survived by her sons Larry (Paula) and Howard (Lauren), as well as her cherished grandchildren Stephanie (Denny), Daniel, Allan, and Robyn. Marge was preceded in death by her husband Morty. They were married for 68 years.
Marge was born and raised in Philadelphia. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Temple University in 1955. Marge taught first grade in Miami, Florida while Morty completed his medical internship and residency. They moved to Alexandria, Virginia around 1960, and then in 1966 to Laurel, Maryland, where she resided ever since.
Marge loved being a mom and grandmother. She stepped away from teaching to raise Larry and Howard, then returned to the workplace for many years in an administrative role. She eagerly invested her time with her grandchildren, attending recitals, performances, and sporting events. She played a key role in fostering their knowledge of and appreciation for arts, culture and travel. Some of her most treasured moments were private, individual lunches with her grandchildren, where she cultivated those cherished relationships.
Cats were an ever-present part of Marge’s life. She never lived without one and had an uncanny ability to communicate with them. Her house is adorned with cat pictures and mementos. Her first grandchild, Stephanie, gave her the name Grandma Kitty, and that stuck with her for the rest of her life.
Marge was a consummate hostess, warmly welcoming family, friends and colleagues into her home throughout her life. Thanksgiving feasts, Passover Seders, and parties were continual events. Marge loved playing Mahjong and bridge and continued with her bridge group until the final weeks of her life.
Marge and Morty were fortunate to travel extensively both in the United States and throughout the world. It was a true passion of hers as she visited 26 countries and made lifelong friends in the course of her international travels. In her final years, when she was no longer able to travel, Marge loved seeing pictures from her family’s excursions and hearing the details of their trips. Often you could see her light up as she pictured herself in those exact locations, reliving the moment.
A funeral service will be held on August 2, 2026, at 11:00 at Oseh Shalom, located in Laurel, MD. A burial will follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park in Clarksburg, MD.
