

Mildred K. Glazer, whose rich life was dedicated to progressive causes, died peacefully at her home in Silver Spring, Maryland on August 28, 2023. She was a positive influence and a role model for family and many friends throughout her long life. She was active in politics, civil rights, feminist movements
and other good causes.
Mildred was born in New York City on January 22, 1923 to Louis and Freda Krauss. Her father immigrated from Poland as a teenager and worked in the garment industry. His involvement in the union piqued her lifelong interest in the labor movement. Mildred grew up in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn,
where she was an avid swimmer and loved the beach. She attended Brooklyn College, received a
BA in Economics (U. Wisconsin 1944), an MA in Education/Social Studies (NY University 1950), and did graduate work in Economics (Georgetown and American Universities). In 1942, she married Joe Glazer, who became a renowned trade union educator, folklorist, singer-songwriter, and Foreign Service officer.
She taught English and Social Studies at a Jr. High School in Akron, Ohio; English to adult immigrants; and later taught at a British School in Mexico City. She retired after working for 20 years as an economist for the US Department of Commerce. After retirement Mildred continued to lead a rich and full life including socializing with family and friends, taking classes, reading and clipping her beloved New York Times and Washington Post, swimming and daily exercise, and frequenting the theater, museums and folk concerts. Survivors include daughters Emily Glazer (Karl Kosok) and Patti Glazer; daughter-in-law Karen Glazer; grandchildren Andrew Glazer (Jennifer Young-Glazer), Maya Kosok (Max Romano) and Rachel Belleville (Kyle Belleville); great-grandchildren Mariana Romano, Maddalena Romano, and Katie Glazer. She was predeceased by her husband Joe Glazer, son Daniel Glazer, and granddaughter Ariana Kosok.
