

Robert Allen Mendelsohn, son of Dorothy and Maurice Mendelsohn, passed away on July 17th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was a native Washingtonian.
He raised five children together with his wife and high school sweetheart, Greta. Greta passed away in 1974. He married Laurel Barron in 1984 and they spent many loving years together. They had a passion for collecting art glass and enjoyed traveling the world. He was a well-respected neurosurgeon and practiced for many years in the Maryland suburbs.
In addition to his wife, Laurel, Dr. Mendelsohn’s family includes his sisters; Danielle Holzeman (pre-deceased) and Gene Behrmann, children; Mark Mendelsohn (pre-deceased), Anne Turner (David), Sindy Rogers (Don), Craig Mendelsohn (Dan), June Plotkin (Rick), daughters-in-law; Faye Mendelsohn and Rhonda Brodbeck, son-in-law Charlie Plotkin (pre-deceased), step-children; Jeff Barron, Richard Barron (Carol), and Leslie Lane (Bruce), grandchildren; Greta Fox (Evan), Jamie Appell (Brian), Jeff Mendelsohn (Nicole), Cara Scheffres, Matt Swartz (Jessica), Steven Swartz (Stephanie), Dee Dee Swartz (Tom), Ali Karpa (Jon), Jessica Appell (Josh), Ryan Cohen (Adam), Taylor Kiviat (Maxine), Justin Plotkin (Elizabeth), Jake Plotkin (Britney), Kevin Plotkin, Jake Barron, Eric Barron, Elysa Barron, David Barron, Meghan Barron, Evan Lane, Dana Lane, and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was loved by everyone he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for charitable contributions be made to the ALS Therapy Development Institution, the American Heart Association, or charity of your choice.
Due to COVID-19, the family will have a private graveside service and Shiva.
