Born at Offutt AFB, NE on August 10, 1951, Ronald R. Whitaker died peacefully in his sleep at home in Silver Spring, MD on November 21, 2020. Third son of Rosco (deceased) and Linda Whitaker, Ron is survived by three brothers and their wives: Joseph and Sherry of Silver Spring, MD, Michael and Teresa of Bellevue, NE, and Gary and Myla of Gering, NE, plus numerous nephews and nieces. After working many years as an avid auto mechanic and railway right-of-way maintainer, Ron retired and enjoyed visiting relatives and friends, telephonically and in person. If asked, he would tell you his favorite car was “Satisfaction”, his rebuilt 1955 cherry red Chevy (350 cu. in. V8/375 h.p., 4 speed transmission, 4.11 rear end) from many years ago, and his favorite dog was a German-short hair named Blitz. He enjoyed history documentaries, especially about World War II. During the past three years he struggled with congestive heart failure followed by an aortic aneurysm, which caused him to be less fond of strenuous exercise, but he still enjoyed outpacing his brother, Joe, on their many long walks. The last two years he lived with family in Silver Spring, MD. His nephews and their wives enjoyed his laughter at family get-togethers. We used to laugh at his hearty appetite. He could eat more than most people and seldom put on much weight. Another positive memory for him was of his trip with his brother Joe last year to visit his mother, family, and friends in Nebraska. Even more importantly, several years ago while speaking with his brother, Mike, about the Bible, Ron announced he believed in Jesus and trusted in Him for his salvation. A memorial service will be held in 2021 in Bellevue, NE. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
