

Gim Tan married Lee, Shek Yiu (李灼堯) and had 3 children - Ying Wai, Ying Chiu, and Mo Yee (認蔚.認超.慕儀)
During the 1950’s, her family moved to Hong Kong and her husband went to the United States to pursue a better life. She raised her children by herself with her mother’s help. In the 1970’s, she traveled to the US and immigrated to become a US citizen. There she re-united with her husband in New York. Two years later she also re-united with her children from Hong Kong. Unfortunately, her husband Shek Yiu passed away at the age 54.
She worked very hard in a garment factory in New York Chinatown as a seamstress. She lived a difficult life as a single mother but she trusted in God. She was a devout Christian and prayed to the lord every single day. She enjoyed watching and playing sports such as baseball/softball, basketball, ping pong, ice skating, etc. Gim had a huge heart and was a very kind person. She always respected the elderly and liked to help people even though she was not rich. She was a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother whom she loved and cared about her family.
In the 1990’s, she retired and moved to Maryland to live with her daughter Mo Yee & family. In the year 2019, she received Long Term Care benefits and moved into Hebrew Home located in Rockville. During the past few years, she lived well in the nursing home. She made friends and was respected by Hebrew Home staff and roommates. Everyone loved her as a very sweet and lovely lady. During the pandemic, her eldest son, Ying Wai passed away in 2020.
Gim passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100 at 00:43am on December 30, 2024 at Hebrew Nursing Home in Rockville, Maryland.
She is survived by her 2 children – Ying Chiu Lee and Mo Yee Wan (Christine Wan), son-in-law, Hing Wan, daughter-in-law Vera Lee, 5 grandchildren – Jeanne, Dave, Jordan, Linda & Vincent, 7 great-grandchildren: (Ruble) Keone, Kainoa, Kaleo, (Wan) Ayumi, Leon, (Shinoda) Elyse, Kylie
Although Gim has left, her smile, kindness, sincerity and big loving heart will always be missed.
