Sook Kat Goon

December 1, 1938 - March 31, 2025

Sook Kat Goon (Huie) was born on December 1, 1938, in Hong Kong. She came to the US with her mother in 1952 to reunite with her father and brother. The family lived in Minnesota working and building a life in the US. Her younger brother and sister were born in the US in 1952 and 1953. Sook Kat met Jin Goon (Ming) in 1955 and married in 1958 after seeing each other 3 weeks out of 3 years and brought her to the Washington DC area. They owned and worked two restaurants. The first one was on 7 & O St in Washington, DC from 1958-1969. The second one was on E Fairfax St in Falls Church, Va from 1969-1993. Sook Kat and Ming together had 3 children, Joyce, Doris, and Andrew. In its purest sense, Ming's Restaurant was a true family-run business.

On March 31, 2025, Sook Kat Goon passed away with her family at her bedside at Reston Memorial Hospital. She was living with her son Andrew and his wife Tanya and their children in Gainesville, Va. She peacefully passed away at the age of 86. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Ming and their daughter Joyce. She is survived by her 2 children, Doris and Andrew, along with her husband John and his wife Tanya. Also, by her 5 beautiful grandchildren Shae, Erica, Victoria, Alex, and Kimberly. Sook Kat is also survived by 2 brothers, Jack and William and her sister Modette. she will truly be missed by all.

Visitation and funeral will be on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Hines-Rinaldi funeral home and the burial tribute and final resting place will be at George Washington Memorial Cemetery next to her husband Ming.
