On October 1, 1970 an angel was born and given the name Sophia Elaine Morrison. She was born to Anthony Leon and Icilda Morrison aka Shirley, now Icilda Hawkins. During this time she lived with her Grand Aunt Icilda Elliott in Bog Walk in the parish of St Catherine, Jamaica.
At the tender age of six, her life changed drastically due to a near death accident that left both legs crushed, and other broken bones, but doctors were able to save one leg. She did not allow her disability to stop her. She attended Primary Schools in Linstead, then Rosemont in Jamaica.
She migrated to the USA in June of 1984 where she attended Buck Lodge Junior High School, graduating in 1985.
She attended High Point High School and graduated with honors in 1990.
While she was in High School, she also attended Maryland University Upward Bound where she graduated with honors in the same year.
She then attended Towson Career Center in Baltimore where she acquired a certificate in accounting.
Sophia developed a passion for sign language then went on to Montgomery College where she completed her study in sign language.
She was also accepted to Gallaudet School for the deaf.
She loved to read and design things, and was very competitive in everything she did.
Sophia accepted the Lord and was baptized in St John Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and was very active in her church.
She held positions at the Naval Research and the National Archives. Her last job was with the Maryland State Highway Administration, but due to declining health she was forced to resign.
On Friday September 11, 2020, Sophia was peacefully called home. She leaves behind mother Icilda Hawkins, fathers Anthony Morrison, and Trevor Hawkins, her baby (cat) Satin, Sisters Andrea, Marie, Yoland, Caroline and Ikha, Brothers Andre (Dean), Neil (Wayne), Kerron, and Kenneth Morrison, and good friend Rachelle Crockett. She also leaves behind eight (8) Aunts, nine (9) Uncles and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives.
She was loved by all she had an encounter with. She will be greatly missed.
