My deepest condolences go out to Steven's family and friends.  I worked with Steve for a short time at ISOO in year 2001 right before he retired from ISOO.  The short time that I knew him I found him to be intelligent, humorous, and caring.  He helped me at ISOO and when I left ISOO.  I will always remember how he helped me, even though we lost touch after we left ISOO about the same time in year 2002.  I apologized to him about an incident that happened, and he told me not to apologize because he understood my side of the story.  May God bless Steve and his family.   

I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing.  He was a wonderful, humerous man who was admired by all whose lives he touched, including mine.   I was an instructor at  the Defense Security Institute in Richmond, VA.  He showed our students that there was a truly remarkable person who cared for our national security; he brought a personal concern  to ones who may have only thought that  bureaucracy only existed in Washington, DC.  I was able to meet his wonderful wife and family.  My condolences, prayers and blessings to all of you on your loss

I am saddened to hear of Steve’s passing.  He was a wonderful boss and human being.  I learned so much from him, not just about national security policy but how to be a better person.  He had a tremendous sense of humor; he was innovative and creative in a sometimes mundane and arcane area of policy.  When he retired from Federal Service, he left a vacuum that could not be filled.  But his next act was even better—teaching young high schoolers, which I think was his true calling.  We have lost an amazing man, but his legacy will live on through his family and in ways yet to be realized.  Thank you, Steve, for all that you have given us!  To  and your family:  The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
