Born on May 2, 1940, to Felix and Elizabeth Spurney, Susan was raised in Kensington, Maryland, here she developed the curiosity, determination, and sense of humor that would characterize her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Hebner. She is survived by her brother, Petr Spurney.
