Now this hurts.  I just learned of Tanya's passing and my heart is truly broken.  My heart breaks for all of you; her precious babies, Jacob and Olivia; her loving husband Roc, parents, family and friends.   I pray that God comfort your hearts and be your peace in days, weeks, months and years to come.  

I met Tanya while working in The Hague in 2017.  She had it all, beauty and brains.  She was intelligent, professional, conservative and witty.  She was also very kind and thoughtful.  

She would kindly show her concern towards me when my husband was diagnosed with cancer.  She  prayed for us, she offered to come sit with me if I needed company.  She specifically said to me, "now don't be sitting over there needing help and not call me."  She was such a sweetheart.

She was a special part of our CBW Affairs team and provided essential support in our effort to defend and secure U.S. national security.  During the time I had the honor to work with Tanya, she not only shared a smiling face and great humor with our office, but also earned State Department Honor Awards, on her own and as part of our team. I will never forget our trips to The Hague and Paris, and joking together about Saturday Night Live episodes.  I recall these memories fondly and wish we had more time together.

I can’t find the words to justify your loss. We are here for you. Here is the last picture we took together. Yes, I have my glasses Tanya!

I met Tanya because our children attended the same daycare. From the first time she spoke to me, I have known her to be a kind, caring, hilarious, outspoken woman. I don’t have much family in the area so, more recently, Tanya watched my son several times and encouraged my husband and I to go on more dates. My son loves her and loves spending time with Livy & Jacob who are like a big brother & sister to him. He hated to leave Ms. Tanya’s house which she called “The Club”. She would call me out of the blue at times to tell me she loved me & was proud of me. You don’t meet people like Tanya every day & I made sure to tell her often what she meant to me & my family. I just knew that we had many many more years ahead of us to grow even closer & for me to return the favor & watch Livy & Jacob for her. I am so heartbroken to have lost such a special friend. To her family, please accept my sincere condolences for this unimaginable loss.

Heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I am truly heartbroken and I am praying that you will find comfort. I was stunned to learn of the passing of Tanya. I first met her not long after I started working at the State Department about 12 years ago. Many relationships at work are just that, they tend to stay there for the most part. But not this one, not with Tanya. Her and Roc are extremely welcoming, and often invited me out to events at their house. I invited them to my wedding. She was the friend Tanya, not just the coworker. I'll never forget how she constantly reached out to me after the passing of my father. For a couple of weeks, there wasn't more than a day that went past that I didn't hear from her. She would offer to cook a bunch of food and bring it to me. She did the same with the birth of my son. She referred to him as her nephew and when I'd ask about her mom, Thelma, I refer to her as Mama T. 

To Roc, Thelma, Jacob, Olivia, and the rest of the family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Reading many of these memories did make me smile as it affirms the one of kind person that she was to so many people. Cherish those wonderful memories.

Bonding over trip books and tent cards.   We celebrated life events together-toasting at birthday, dancing at our weddings and holding each other’s babies. When I learned of Tanya’s passing, I was deeply saddened and in disbelief.  She was more than just a co-worker of mine at the Department of State, she was a good friend.  It is so difficult to comprehend the loss of such a wonderfully bright, kind and caring person.  She had a generous heart and a welcoming spirit.  She was full of joy and could always brighten any room with her friendly smile and contagious laughter.  She will be missed dearly; and even in grief – there is the reassurance that Tanya knew and loved the Lord; and is now in His eternal loving arms.  For the wonderful family she so proudly and lovingly shared with us in conversations and pictures, my heart goes out to you, especially Thelma (I called mom), William “Roc” (my Frat brother) who I only met once but feel like I’ve known forever, and Jacob and Olivia. I have been Tanya’s coworker/friend for 14 years and my heart completely broke when I learned of her passing. As everyone has said before me, Tanya was the most warm hearted, compassionate and hilariously funny person I’ve ever met. No one could make me laugh like Tanya did, and as I watched the Inauguration today, I imagined all the sarcastic comments she would have about everyone’s looks and outfits ... While I never actually had the blessing or opportunity to meet this beautiful young lady, I know that she had to be a special lady and woman to capture the heart of Coach now Principal William “ Roc” Haith. Coach Haith was a very integral part of my son’s development and success in football when he coached him @ Woodrow Wilson High School, he assisted him in the opportunity to play college football @ West Liberty University for that I will eternally grateful, he’s continuing that @ Anacostia High School for those student- athletes.  I met Tanya as a teenager when she would come and spend the summer here in DC.  Her smile and bubbly personality was her trademark.  Tanya touched so many life in the short time she was with us. I thank you for always having that beautiful smile on your face whenever we met up at family functions.

My name is Marguerite and I am Tanya's youngest sister. My sister Tanya and I did not grow up together but met a few times when I was a young child. During my college years at Williams College in Massachusetts, I spent a Thanksgiving with her and her husband William and baby Jacob (Jakey Wakey) I would call him. It was then that we started to create our bond as sisters as we did not have that opportunity growing up. In 2016, I spent about a week with Tanya and William and Baby Jacob and Baby Olivia. They are both so precious to me. William and Tanya welcomed me into their home again in 2016 and we had so many conversations about life, career, relationships, being kind and marriage. Tanya and William paid for every food meal for me, both so kind. I put out an album in the year 2017 and during the 2016 year I was still songwriting and working on putting it out there. Tanya rooted for me every step of the way and was so proud of me. I am at a loss that she is not with us as I feel I didn’t get the chance to get to know my sister over the years. It is truly heart wrenching. I will always carry Tanya in my heart and hold her kindness and tenderness with me. She had the most beautiful smile. William, I send my deepest condolences to you and I hope to be a bigger part of Jacob and Olivia’s life. I am so sorry you have lost your precious wife and the kids have lost their loving mom. Blessings on your lives.

Tanya‘s grandmother Evelyn Jenkins and my mother were cousins. Tanya’s mother Thelma and I attended Primary school together in Guyana, but in 1967, I moved to the US .  
It wasn’t until after the birth of Tanya and William‘s first child Jacob that I was re-introduced to my cousin Thelma in Maryland.  I remember the smile and the loving, warm, tight hug I got from Tanya the first time we met.  Her beautiful, deep eyes pierced my soul and she accepted me and immediately allowed me to be a part of her beautiful family – William, Jacob and later Olivia. The time we were apart after leaving  Guyana now seemed like a brief pause.

During my mothers illness, prior to her demise, the loving support I received from them helped  me to endure.  I grew to come to know the love and unity Thelma had with her daughter and her family.

I had the pleasure of sharing in the celebration of William and Tanya’s 10th wedding anniversary zoom celebration in 2020. It was heartwarming to hear the expressions of love and appreciation for his wife and children that William shared with all of us.
I was devastated to learn of Tanya’s  passing last Tuesday.  Life is a wonderful gift from God. He never intended for us to experience tears of sadness, pain and death. We were not created to be separated from the ones we love. I have faith that God has not forgotten his promise of peace in His Kingdom. We like Tanya, must continue to have LOVE  amongst ourselves, obey and have faith like Christ directed. This will ensure William, Thelma, Jacob and Olivia and all those who love Tanya will have the strength and endurance we need until we are reunited with her again.
Please know that my love for you will not entertain another ‘pause’ .
 Above all, believe like Paul that “The power of Christ will remain over you like like a tent.....for when I am weak, then I am powerful...” 2 Cor 12:10.

It’s your smile that was always genuine and made one feel embraced by warmth. I want to remember Tanya for the warmth she brought to every room and every encounter. I imagine that somewhere in heaven you are sharing your smile with all the saints that have gone before you. Your passing has left a void that will never go away and there are truly no words to express the grief I feel at your loss. I will miss seeing you when I come to Maryland and you won’t be there to bring your special light and warmth to the tea party. That you knew Jesus gives me a great deal of comfort and your beautiful children left behind will be in my prayers constantly.

We are still in shock at the unexpected news of your sudden death last Tuesday.  No words can ever adequately express the loss of a loved one— especially one you called your niece—so young and seemingly at the peak of your life.

You will always be remembered as a very special person. You represented a special breed of human being:
-always respectful, honest, selfless, kind, caring, humble, delightful to be around;
-always generous in offering your services without prompting;
-always willing to reach out and help others without expecting anything in return;
-always exuding a warm sense of humor and love for those in your life and the many others  whose lives you touched.

I will miss you saying “Auntie can I help you with anything”. You loved all of your family and extended family. To you, family connections were so important. You were always planning a celebration or a surprise of one type or another.

We met only a few years ago but like so many have mentioned, your generosity, kindness and unique ability to make someone feel comfortable was and is like no other.  You were always genuine and real and I cherished every second we have ever spent together.

                                                 Impressions of Tanya

On first meeting Tanya in the flesh, my impression was that she was not the usual 'run of the mill' young adult woman.  She had obviously been very well brought up; and was personable, well mannered and respectful, inter alia.  Previously, I had been acquainted with her by way of her mother's letters and a childhood photo.   She was amazed that her mother had friends from school days.  She accepted me, loved me and honoured me; just because I was one of her mother's childhood school friends; and went above and beyond the call of duty to facilitate my visits to Maryland (MD).  She insisted on picking me up from the airport and taking me back for my return flight to Antigua; even though it meant great sacrifice for her.  There are no direct flights between Antigua and MD; so I usually arrived late night; and left very early in the morning.  After she got married, I tried to persuade her to stop but she wouldn't.  She would also make time to take me shopping, after her work day, so that I could get all the things on my list; and patiently waited while I shopped.  Tanya was very precious to us; a beautiful young woman with a sweet spirit; warm-hearted, generous, friendly, kind, considerate, affectionate/loving, dependable, intelligent, caring, sociable; a delight to know. We grew to love and appreciate her so very much.  Her absence from this earth is going to take some getting used to.  We thank God for the privilege of knowing and interacting with her on this earth.  God, in His providence, ordained that our paths should cross; and what a blessing that has been.  We will miss her very much.  We pray for God's comfort for William, Jacob, Olivia, Thelma, her aunts, cousins and friends.

Dear Tanya,

In the blink of an eye your appointment came. But a billion blinks won’t break the lasting authenticity that during 4 decades, you crafted an amazing legacy of love, humanity, hard work and endearment that survives in our hearts.

You could be so serious at times. But mostly you spread much joy with your easy, warm and welcoming laughter. Your pranks were good too and so hilarious, especially the vege burger thing.  And it’s only now, years later, that as I reflect I realize that the burger probably wasn’t gumbo enough for you. But hey, this is Maryland not Louisiana.

You were among the best of the bright young generation of FMS’ rookies who left and moved on to great jobs. Your coworkers know that you were a consummate professional and invaluable team member. You really focused on your work.  I have to tell you that you really didn’t have to cut your fingernails that short just to be a better typist.

So there’s this gaping hole in our world.  But a life well lived is the best goodbye you could have given us. I’ll forever treasure the memories of your meaningful life.

Tonight I’ll go outside, look at the sky and try to find your star.  I’m sure it will be there somewhere, probably that extra one shining brightly right next to the moon. And I’ll be sadder about your absence and happier about the life you lived.

I am Tanya’s mother-in-law’s little sister. I met Tanya during a fried chicken event at her mother-in-law’s house. One bite of that chicken, Tanya was hooked. I fried chicken for her 40th bday! She called me so sweet to thank me over & over again.

Tanya your sunset weighs heavily on my heart, I first met you through Aretha and your smile and warm personality is what first struck me as someone I wanted to know. Your departure is one many won’t understand but in my memories of when my husband left, I was told that GOD said his job was done and that he was only on loan to me...You were on loan and we must understand this; I cherish the memories 😘.  I like many others will miss you and all that you brought to each of our lives in your own special way...love you, miss you and sending many heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones who I know will truly miss you, GOD BLESS 


Thinking about Tanya has me remember how when I was young and growing up I always saw her and Ericka; my sister, having fun and laughing. I always wondered what they did and where they would go.  I was so happy to have moments with them just a few years ago as an adult and experience Black Girl Magic.  Tanya just taught me a new game called Sequence over the Christmas holidays. She was so serious and in the zone.... she beat the crap out of us, lol. I know I'll play and think of her every time.

I will miss Tanya and am deeply saddened. She just shared in the celebration of my baby shower on Saturday and I will forever cherish that memory along with many others we’ve shared while I lived in the Maryland and DC area. Roc and the family have my love and sincere condolences. 

My memory with this beautiful soul is meeting her as Family through Tori Plummer at one of her events and she was always so delightful to talk too. Especially when we both found out that we are Sorors (AKA). She always said there’s my soror and gives me the biggest hug and I said it back to her along with a hug too every single time I saw her at their family events.  She will be missed.  Prayers to the Haith Family and her children.

Blessings from the Wootens 

I am Tanya's dad's cousin.  About three weeks ago I met Tanya for the first time on Facebook.  She recognized my name from the facebook family sharing.  She sent me a friend request and I accepted and immediately she called me to talk.  I told her who I was, her dad's cousin and I shared with her the history of knowing her mom Thelma and her dad, Patrick Anthony.  We were both at work and promised each other to speak some more during the weeks ahead.  She spoke of her two kids and husband and I gathered from her speaking about them that the relationship was special. When I heard of her passing, I immediately called my cousin and send my love to the family.  

God knows best and sleep on my dear.  You are another rose on the tree panted in heaven to brighten our days.  Sleep on.  God bless.

I remember going to aunt Tanya and uncle Roc’s house and she would take me and my god sisters to get our nails done or get. Or even if she didn’t do that, we did some type of DIY project. She made us feel special, I love you. Until next time 

William and family,  upon hearing of our tragic loss I was saddened to know you'd lost the love of your life!  Tanya was a beautiful person with a beautiful spirit.   Her zest for life was written all over her and what she accomplished was amazing.  She was an awesome Mom, wife and daughter.

I will always remember Tanya's vibrant personality. She was defined by her warmth and friendliness. She was so full of life and so open in sharing her emotions. Her laugh was heartfelt and infectious. She really came to life talking about her family. Regardless of whatever was going on at our office at State, her mood would be lifted by talking about her kids, or the family’s plans for an upcoming weekend.  
She lived life to the fullest which makes her passing all the more tragic. I am thinking of you in this time of loss. 


Tanya started off as my client, coming to my beauty Solon  and it didn’t take long for a beautiful friendship blossomed between us. I will miss my friend dearly but I know this beautiful soul is resting comfortably with her Lord and saviour.

I was so hurt to find out about Tanya. I remember singing at ROC and TANYA'S wedding reception and the look of joy that was on her face. I will miss that smile. Rest in Paradise Queen.

I was saddened to hear the news of Tanya's passing. Such a loving spirit such a loving Woman, Wife, Daughter, Friend, Cousin and Mother. I can recall so many memories and moments we shared whether it was just talking at a family's cookout or dancing together at a wedding or party. Where ever we was and whatever we was doing the room lite up with Tanya's presence. Her smile brightened the room and her Aura made you feel at peace. She was definitely  the person you could go to and talk to about anything, she never judged she always listened to me and she always gave advice but never once told me what to do only gave advice, and for those reasons amongst many more Im going to miss her. I keep re-reading our texts and Im just so happy she knew I loved her and I knew she loved me.

I was so sorry to hear about Tanya.  She was such a beautiful person and my heart breaks for all of you.  Please know that I will continue to keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.  

I was so saddened and shocked at the passing of Tanya.  She was such a sweet and respectful young woman.  She had a sweet spirit and a winning smile on each encounter.  I loved her and I know she shared the same feeling.  I am thankful for the times spent in her presence and grateful for our conversations and laughter we shared.  Tanya loved the Lord and the Sunday prior to her passing she was on live Emory  Fellowship Church service praising God in the commentary section.  A Guyanese saying would be that I knew her before she was born and that means that my mother and Tanya’s grandmother Aunt Evelyn as I called her were childhood friends and Thelma and I along with Theresa and Thora all grew up together and worshipped at Kingston Methodist Church in Georgetown Guyana. I cannot begin  to  
Fathom this sudden loss to her family.  I pray that God will continue to soothe their hearts and give them a peace and continued faith as they mourn their loss.  Thelma and your entire family I feel your pain, William and the kids Continue to reflect on all the memories made and you are all in my prayers.  Tanya Rest In Peace , we all loved you but God needed you in heaven as angel for his assignment.  The work you did on earth will speak for you.  Sleep on sleep on my sweet Tanya. Sincerely

When I heard the news of Tanya’s passing, my heart filled with hurt and sadness.  I cannot think of any places or gatherings of which I have invited her that she did not attend.  My journey with Tanya has come to an end, and I have no doubt in my mine that God surrounded her with his angels.   It was a graceful blessing of knowing Tanya since 2002 as a friend and colleague.   I will miss  her dearly.

I can't begin to express how my heart felt upon hearing that you had gained your wings. Immediately a flood of memories came back of us spending our middle school years together swearing we were sisters/ besties. We're deeply saddened by the loss of Tanya.  She was a joyous light who really brought people together.  Whenever we saw each other, we loved chatting about our kids and life.  Her smile lit up any room and by extension our neighborhood as well.  
   
You could tell by the questions she asked that she really cared about you.   She was just one of those rare people that made life better.  We will miss her.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Tanya.  Tanya was sweet, kind, thoughtful, and smart.   She always greeted you with her  infectious smile.  Praying for the family, and may God bless and comfort the family. 

When we herd of  Tanya's passing, I struggled to understand at such  a young age  why would this happened. 

On  Wednesday night I reached out in our church  prayer meeting to pray for Olivia, Jacob and William. And the scripture God placed in my heart was Romans 8:28
 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 

For some strange reason we were not given the opportunity to meet in person as cousins but had a social media relationship. I saw how she loved and cared deeply for the people who she surrounded  herself with. 

As I read the tributes today  it revealed  why God placed that  scripture in my heart. 
She was truly a woman of God who  lived her life purposeful, intentional, meaningful and faithfully in the  short time.  Tayna 
lived her purpose in spirit and in truth. 

My prayer is that God  comforts  Oliver, Jacob,William  and all those who were close to her.  In this time of Grief just remember the same memories that causing the pain & grief would be the same memories that would allow you healing and happier times in the future.

God allows people to come into our lives that are like a river of living water that flows from the mountain stream and provides fresh water for so many. Tanya was that person that allowed freshwater to flow through her life. As a pastor, I look for those who stream living water, even though we never met in person, she was a good spirit and friend. She was often first to come to our Sunday services and both bible studies during the week, even though we were online, she commented and brought life as if we were in church together. I considered her a special and valuable virtual member. For the last ten months, she has been a top fan on Facebook Live. She had agreed to be a virtual online teacher for children across the nation. She checked on my wife during her difficult time in the passing of her father. Sometimes in life, we feel short-changed, we give 100% and only get 60% back, Tanya got her 100% back through being a Christian believer, now, in the arms of Jesus.

There are really just no words to express the grief I feel over Tanya’s passing.  To me, Tanya was an amazing friend, a selfless colleague, my uncompensated therapist, a sporting trash talker, a hilarious wit, an empathetic soul.  Just everything you would want in a friend and someone you spent way too much time with working on way too many mind-numbing things.  

Her office at the State Department was a revolving door for her colleagues who needed to vent, seek advice, or just find some humor in whatever the crisis of the day was. She was so generous with her time and compassion, always willing to listen, commiserate, and offer a laugh.  I think my favorite times were when we shared a little office in the bowels of the department, and we would banter with each over the cubicle wall that separated us.  She always gave better than she got.  I will cherish those memories forever.  

Kerrie and I hold William, Jacob, Olivia, Thelma and all her family and friends in our hearts and prayers, and offer our heartfelt and sincere condolences for this extraordinarily painful loss.   We love you “T”.

My heart is broken and full of sorrow today as I learned that we tragically lost a beautiful loving friend yesterday. She was a mother, wife, daughter, friend and diplomat.
