He spent 48 years creating complex financial structures for major capital projects worldwide, having worked in over 100 countries. He was a passionate fly fisherman, avid environmentalist, conservationist, supporter of Trout Unlimited, River Keepers and PBS/Maryland Public Television.
Born August 12, 1944, San Antonio, TX to Jeanette (Jan) Arnold Newendorp, from Rochester, NY; and Kenneth Erwin Newendorp, from Orange City, Iowa. Raised in Ft. Wayne, IN, from age 5 until college at Purdue University, where he majored in Chemical Engineering. Received his J.D. from George Washington University School of Law, with honors, 1969. Practiced law in a Chicago law firm and several international corporations before founding Taylor-DeJongh, Inc. (TDJ) in 1981, an international project development and finance company. He was Chairman and CEO until early 2015.
Under his guidance, TDJ became one of the leading financial advisors in the world for large-scale power projects and oil & gas projects, especially Liquified Natural Gas projects. The firm ranked among the top project finance advisors globally over a 20- year period. Terry and the firm were given numerous awards in the industry, including ‘25-year All Star’ for energy financings.
Terry also served 4 years on the Energy Committee of the United Nations European Commission on Energy (UNECE)– the only American on the Committee.
Terry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathryn Lindquist, whom he married August 1, 1992 in Baltimore County, Maryland. She was his best friend, loving wife and business partner.
Other survivors include: his daughter Nicole Newendorp (David Taylor), of Cambridge, MA; his son, Taylor Newendorp (Kate Murphy), Chicago, IL; 5 grandsons; his sister-in-law Vicki Hembree, Waterloo, IA; brother-in-law Kenneth Lindquist (Lynda Lindquist), Morton, IL; and nephew Nicholas Hembree, niece Rachel Hembree and nephew Eric Lindquist. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Roger Hembree.
He had been an active member of the Board of Directors of Venture Global LNG of Washington D.C., a domestic US developer and builder of LNG export terminals in Louisiana. He also served on the Advisory Board and Investment Committee for Mariner Capital’s International Infrastructure Finance Company.
