Troy , I still miss you and think of you very often and as I would say when you stopped  by my desk , hey tray and you would say  to me Hey Nay Nay. You are missed  (RIP TRAY!!!)


We are so sorry for this tremendous loss. Troy was one of the nicest people to meet and greet in the halls of Westat. He reminded each of us he interacted with of what's really important in life, to take time to be kind to one another and engage one another in conversation. Our last conversation was at the RE 3rd floor elevator where he was excited as always for Friday!  His memories will continue to live on all around us. RIP sweet soul!

Troy always managed to brighten my day, and especially Fridays, with his chipper "TGIF".  What a beautiful soul.  My heartfelt condolences to the Chen family.

I just learned of the sad passing of Troy. To lose such a kind, gentle man is devastating to anyone who knew him. To have known him brings a smile to know there can be such a truly good person in the world.  Rosie, I am so sorry for your terrible loss.  A loss to everyone.

Would like to share something I wrote on January 28th upon finding out about my cousin Troy while I was travelling in Laos. I was unable to attend his funeral. Love goes out to my cousin Andrew (Teddy) Troy's brother and his mother..my Aunt Rosie.
My dear cousin Troy...I am still in shock by your sudden passing. I have no words to explain the grief that I feel knowing that I will never see you again on this earth. I hope now you are in a better place and that we will meet again some day. You have always been not only a good cousin to me but a brother, and I will miss you dearly. I am sorry we didn't have a chance to say goodbye. I now find myself so far away from home and I believe that you wouldn't want me to be sad...but I am. Love you always. Mireille

My work day seems so strange without Troy and I greeting each other with "what's up buddy, it's your world"! Rest in peace my friend.

It is quite evident from all the comments that Troy had a positive impact on many, many people.  Pure, simple, kindness makes the work brighter.  He will be missed. I'm sad to know that Troy has left this world. I have yet to encounter anyone who knew everyone like he did. It will be a LONG TIME before I no longer expect to see Troy all over campus multiple times a day. I keep thinking he's going to be walking across the parking lot or down the hall at any moment. ALWAYS friendly and ALWAYS taking the 5 seconds that most people do not to say hello, call you by name (he never mispronounced mine), and end with a TGI whatever day it was, he will always be missed!!!!

Dear Rosie,
I am so sorry for your sudden loss of Troy. There are never words that make losing a child easier. God put Troy on this earth to do HIS work and Troy certainly excelled at this.  He was a very friendly, likeable, caring and helpful man with a sense of humor and a love of life. I looked forward to seeing him twice a day and talking about whatever was on his mind. Every fall, I would print the Redskins season schedule in color for 'Skins fans in the office and would always print one for Troy. He was always surprised and thankful when I handed it to him and would say "and it is in color!" On Monday mornings, we would talk about the 'Skins game and how they played. He always wanted to know if I knew the latest weather forecast to be sure of what he might be in for walking from building to building.  There were times I told him to be sure he had his hat and scarf.  Couldn't help myself - it is the Mother in me. Troy made a difference in the lives of many of us at Westat and hopefully, we have learned something from him. You are in my prayers. Bonnie McPhillips

Sadness is in the air. A sense of loss is within us. Every time I am in the hallway, on the path between RE building and RB/TA building, or by the elevator, I am thinking of Troy. I miss Troy very much  his smile, friendliness, kindness, our conversations about his vacation in California, Hong Kong, and Disney World. I miss his TGIFs, his My Mom says Hi to you, his Hi Annie, his holiday greetings. He greeted everyone by name. I remember his joy and excitement when he became Uncle Troy. Troy will always be in my remembrance and heart. Rosie, my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

TGIT! I'm starting this with initials that will always make me think of Troy. And no, that's not a typo! Troy would see me (and countless others!) across the...you name it: cafeteria, parking lot, hall and on Thursdays and ALWAYS on Fridays, would say, "TGIT, Darcy! almost TGIF!".  Over the years, I can't tell you how many hours in total we spent talking about the Redskins and Star Wars (from movies to the lunch boxes with the cookie cutters that didn't work to the theme parks and his beloved trips to Disney).  On more than one occasion I would bring him in some Star Wars-related fun thing only to find out that, of course, he already bought it and not only that, but he got it at a better deal than I did.  He was always a little disappointed that I wasn't into video games and that I failed miserably at the Star Wars game (and worse, even now cannot remember which game system I even have).  He told me I should practice more :) I am smiling thinking about him right this minute, including thinking about how he would also say, "TGIM, Darcy!" and I would say with a smile, "No, not TGIM! I wish it was TGIF!" But, of course, he was right. Because TGI any day that we can all spend together and smile, which is what we all did anytime we saw Troy. :) I'm also smiling thinking of my coworker across the hall. Troy would always stop in to chat with me and it became a running joke between Troy and my colleague (and me) that he would not say hello by name to my colleague. Turns out my colleague wasn't a Star Wars or Redskins fan and, according to Troy, didn't smile as much as me. So there you go. I, along with our Westat colleagues, miss Troy deeply. Our love and condolences to his family. And I hope it makes them smile that a colleague has taken to sending TGIF emails in honor and memory of Troy.

Troy, every time I think of you, a smile comes to my face. Thank you for the wonderful memories and cherish our conversations on your trips and Chinese food. We would exchange our greetings by mentioning any Cantonese dish. And, yes, you would say them in Cantonese and then explained them to me what it was. RIP, Troy. I'll miss you.

Cannot believe this news when I heard it. Feel so sorry for that! He always said Hello to me when we met in the hallway. He is such a good and happy person! I will miss him!

I've worked with Troy for 10 years.  He was always such a joy to run into in the hallway.  He will be deeply missed.

Troy was such a great guy. I seen him bi-weekly at my job and he always knew how to make my day. He'd talk to me about anything and everything. I seen him a few days before his passing and he was telling me about how his Christmas and how relaxing it was for him. It was a pleasure getting to know him over the past few years and he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends.

I will truly miss talking with Troy about the Redskins...and Caramel Bugles, which were his favorite. He was so delighted when I gave him 2 bags for Christmas, he lit up like a tree! Troy will be missed so very much. My heart and prayers goes out to his family. While having lunch, I will always see him delivering mail to the other buildings. Everytime we see each, he would always say "Hi." On Thursday's he will say, TGIT!!. He will be truly missed around the campus.

Troy had a way of making everyone feel special with a simple hello.  Our every day won't ever be the same without him.  I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to know him.

Auntie Rosie, Ted and Family...  Even though it's been many years since we have spent some time together...the memories of fun times we had as kids have always been with me.  The many happy vacations and adventures with the whole gang of Ted, Troy, Mireille, Monique, Paul, Richard and me will always be the fond memories to be cherished.  So sorry for your loss...

Troy was the sweetest guy.  He made such an effort to learn everyone's name and always offed a cheerful greeting, asking about my weekend on Monday or celebrating TGIF on Friday.  I wish I had known that he was a Star Trek fan, I would have loved to talk Star Trek with him. He is greatly missed at Westat.

My path often crossed with Troy's each day as I walked across the Westat campus.  Troy was always smiling and chatty.  I particularly enjoyed seeing Troy on Fridays as he always ended our conversation with TGIF.  Troy will be sorely missed by the Westat community!

Troy was one of my first friends, which is only fitting, since our mothers were also childhood friends!  He treated me like family from day one.  One of my favorite childhood memories is the two weeks I spent with The Chens during the Summer of 1982.  It was my first solo cross-country trip and it was a blast.  We toured DC, played computer games, watched movies, ate great seafood, and they introduced me to Putt Putt Golf!  

You will be missed, brother!  Enjoy the next adventure - Ex astris, scientia!  Much love to The Chen family!

Troy was loved here at Westat for his eagerness to learn all about his colleagues and his great enthusiasm for life. He brightened our days and often made the long walk to the café fun. We would see Troy in the RW elevator and chat about the weather after answering his question, "Where's Carole?" He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Troy.

Is there anyone at Westat who didn't know Troy? I suspect that number could be counted on just one hand. He went everywhere and had a greeting for everyone. Rosie and family, I'm so sorry for your loss but I hope you take comfort in the knowledge that Troy touched a lot of lives in a very positive way and that is a big accomplishment.

Every time I met Troy on Westat campus, he would send me a special greeting--"Ni Hao" (hello) in addition to his smile. He will be truly missed.

Troy, like the rest of us, was on the "Train Ride of Life."  We all boarded the train with our parents and at sometime, we and our parents will have to step down from the train ride.  Troy had to step down, like someday, we all will step down at the train station leaving behind memories, joy, smiles, tears, and broken hearts of our leaving, etc.  Troy leaves behind beautiful memories for those who will continue on the Train Ride of Life.
