

Pio Valentín was born on November 22nd, 1961 in Quito, Ecuador to Elsia Marieta and Luis Eduardo Amaguaña. The first born of five siblings, he immigrated to Washington, D.C. with his two younger brothers where he was reunited with his parents and several other newly arrived family members. He attended and graduated from Crossland High School in 1980, and later, as the first in his family to do so, attended college at the University of Maryland and earned a degree in Economics. After having a successful, bi-coastal career in sales, he pivoted to working in college administration, and finally secondary education where he found his calling mentoring young people and coaching athletics.
Considered by his friends and family to be a strong and kind leader, he was also a loving and devoted father to all his children, and a doting grandfather to his many grandkids.
Pio Valentín was predeceased in death by his stillborn son, Sergio Amaguaña; maternal grandparents, abuelita Luz Marina Barragán and Papa Segundo Ronquillo; and paternal grandparents, Mama Virginia Amaguaña Bonbón Diaz and Luis “Papa Lucho” Antonio Amaguaña; He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Susan Amaguana; son and daughter-in-law, Miguel “Miguelito” Amaguaña and Serena Villalba; daughter and son-in-law, Valentina and Anthony Brown; daughter, Danica Amaguaña; son, Maximiliano “Maxi” Amaguaña; and grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Antonius, Andon,
Annakoni, Kai, and Dyani.
He is also survived by his parents, Elsia Marieta and Luis Eduardo Amaguaña; brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Eva Amaguaña; brother and sister-in-law, Mikey and Rosana Amaguaña; sister and brother-in-law, Ivonne and Wilmer Alvarado; sister, Veronica Amaguaña; nephews Oskar Jr. and Santiago Amaguaña; niece Nadja Amaguaña (Oscar); nephews Orlando and Alexis Amaguaña; nieces, Ariela and Michella Amaguaña (Mikey); nieces Gaby and “Meche” Alvarado; nephew Wilmer “Gordo” Alvarado Amaguaña (Ivonne); and niece Rosie Amaguaña (Veronica).
Pio Valentín was a cherished member of his educational and athletic communities at Wheaton High School, a celebrated amateur soccer player in his prime of life, and a family man at heart, through and through.
