Valerie Leighton

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Valerie Leighton of Silver Spring, Maryland found Eternal Rest. Beloved wife of Carlton “Carl” Leighton, mother of Joelle Leighton-Goodison, Karl “Andrew” Leighton, Rieisha Leighton; grandmother of Amanda Goodison, Matthew Goodison, Kristen Leighton, Christian Goodison, Blaine Leighton and Jordan Leighton; sister of Frederick “Freddy” Campbell, Margery “Maggie” Newland; aunt of Deborah “Debbie” Newland, Stephen Newland, Hannah Newland, Susan Marcotte and David Campbell; great aunt of Benjamin “Ben” Newland, Isaiah Newland, Rachelle Marcotte, and Christopher Marcotte; daughter of the late Herbert Campbell and the late Enid Campbell; and other relatives.

Born in St. Mary, Jamaica, Valerie immigrated to the United States in 1989, with her husband, and love of her life, Carlton “Carl” Leighton. While in Jamaica, Valerie worked as a teacher at two of Jamaica’s leading high schools. After moving to the United States, she had a day care and later became a loving foster parent to numerous children.

Relatives and friends may call at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902, Thursday, June 22, 2023, starting at 10:30 am. The remembrance and tributes will be held starting at 10:40 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906, at 1:00 pm. The Repast will immediately follow the Interment at Cross Creek Club House, 12800 Bay Hill Dr, Beltsville, MD 20705.
