Vivian Elaine Palmer

December 7, 1938 – March 18, 2026
Obituary of Vivian Elaine Palmer
IN THE CARE OF

Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home

With sadness, we announce the passing of Vivian Elaine (Davidson) Palmer, 87, on March 18, 2026. She was born on December 7, 1938, in Trafford, Pennsylvania, and was a longtime resident of Olney, Maryland.

Vivian was the beloved wife of Bill; devoted mother and mother-in-law of Bethany and Dale Buschling of Glenwood, Maryland; David and Sheila Palmer of Barrington, Rhode Island; and John and Jeanne Palmer of Mason, Ohio.

She graduated from Seton Hill College with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and later earned a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Library Science. An avid reader and bibliophile, Vivian enjoyed literature of all kinds, as well as European history and political science. She shared a deep appreciation for classical music and opera with her husband Bill, of 49 years.

During her 30-year career at The Catholic University of America, several academic departments benefited from her exceptional communication and organizational skills. In her spare time, Vivian practiced various forms of needlecraft and enjoyed playing the piano. Guided by her love of the written word and her appreciation of language, she was known for being articulate, thoughtful, and generous in sharing her knowledge.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She is survived by her three children, Bethany, David, and John, as well as her nieces and nephews. Her seven grandchildren—Brian, Sarah, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Elaine, Donald, and Carolyn—were a constant source of joy and pride.

Family will receive friends at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home on Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A private interment will follow.
