Willie Mae Scott Willie Mae Scott passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. She will be dearly missed for her selfless devotion to her family. She was born September 12, 1920 in Greenville, MS. Willie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Scott, Sr. She is survived by her sons David Jr. (Brenda) and Glenn, daughters Betty Jo and Shelly, grandsons Kairi, Rahsaan, and Amir, and great granddaughter Stella, and brother-in-law Virgil Scott of Dayton, Ohio, and a host of nieces and nephews. Willie Mae also affectionately known as “Rabbit” was one of the original members of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm which was the first multi-racial all female big band. Willie Mae “Rabbit” Wong played the baritone saxophone for the band during the 1940s. They played for the soldiers during WWII both overseas and domestically. The Sweethearts played all the top venues including the Apollo and the Howard Theater. Visitation will be held at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD on Sunday June 26 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. A second viewing will be held at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home on Monday, June 26 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. which will be immediately followed by a Catholic Funeral Service. Immediately following the funeral service will be the Interment at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD and reception at Seibel’s Restaurant, 15540 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville, MD.
