“Yolanda C. Y. Cheng, age 80, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Yolanda was born in China. Immigrated to Taiwan in her teens. Later she entered New York University and completed her MBA degree. She worked for Pan-American Airline, Delta Airline, and Sheraton as a business woman. She was married to her husband Victor S. L. Cheng for 57 years. She has one son Hugo Cheng, one daughter-in-law Heather Cheng, and six grandchildren. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed skiing, golfing, and tennis. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a supportive grandmother. She suffered from dementia in the last 5 years of her life and passed away due to her physical deterioration from this disease. Thankfully she received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and is now in heaven with Him.”

I lost my mom who visited me each year with hugs, toys, and American snacks
I lost my mom who rather wait to get me back than having more kids, so I won’t feel like my parents favored them more because they raised them
I lost my mom who got me back as a teenager and started to take care of me again
I lost my mom who played tennis with me
I lost my mom who covered her eyes to watch action movies with me
I lost my mom who sent me to college
I lost my mom who welcomed me home with smiles, yummy food, and cash
I lost my mom who turned on the tv to watch my first artwork on the News Hour show
I lost my mom who proudly watched me graduate
I lost my mom who proudly watched me start my first job
I lost my mom who proudly watched me get married
I lost my mom who welcomed my wife even though she never met her until after we were engaged
I lost my mom who enjoyed my weekly calls, occasional flowers and holiday visits
I lost my mom who listened to me patiently when I shared the gospel with her
I lost my mom who stressed for us having more and more kids
I lost my mom who worried for me but never stopped me from entering full-time ministry
I lost my mom who was so kind and supportive to all her grandchildren
I lost my mom who suffered from dementia
I lost my mom who still remembered me and my dad even when all other memories are jumbled, distorted, and faded
I lost my mom who still likes to hold my hand, tell me I am very good, and call me ‘bao-bei’
I lost my mom who never got mad at me even though she got mad at my dad in confusion sometimes
I lost my mom who stopped standing, walking, eating, and drinking
I lost my mom who lets me feed her a tiny little bit more food
I lost my mom who died in her sleep
I lost my mom who loved me… goodbye mom… I love you.
