She was born August 25, 1932, in Guangdong, China, a daughter of the late Xu Zhen Hua & Huang Kendi.
Yu Mei was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Davis Lee and beloved family, Toon & Wendy Lee.
She was a homemaker and familiar figure in Washington DC’s Chinatown. She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She also enjoyed cooking, watching Chinese dramas and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Yu Mei is survived by three step-daughters: Emma Lee, Edith Born, Enna Vailikit; two sons: Qi Hui Chen (Yan Xiang Chen) & Qi Huan Chen (Hui Ying Liu); three daughters, Shew H Chin, Xiu Zhu Chen (Wo Qiang Kuang), & Xiu E Chen (Yi Yang);
Grand-children: Ai Xian Chen (Zhi Ren Tan), Ai Yi Chen (Jing Hui Weng), Shanshan Chen (Yulei Tan), Ci An Chen (Zhen Ling Jiang), Anson Chen (Jian Zhang) & Sherry Chen, Linda Chin (Paul Diamante) & Liana Leager (Steven Leager), Alex & Daniel Kuang, Anderson Yang;
Great-grandchildren: Tan Dong Wei, Kevin & Brian Weng, Chunkit & Hailin Tan, Jun Xi Chen, Paris Chen. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Her family grieves her loss, but take comfort knowing she can finally rest.
Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers and Susan at Lin’s House who provided invaluable care to Yu Mei for many years and to Emma Lee for her help in coordinating and assisting us in getting her affairs in order. We cannot thank you enough!
Private visitation for the family will be held from 9:30am-10am on Thursday, August 12th 2021 at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home in 11800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20904. A public visitation will be held at 10 am and the funeral service will be held 11:30am, also at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Washington National Cemetery, 4101 Suitland Rd, Hillcrest Heights, Maryland 20746. Immediately following the service, the family would like to invite you to join us for a reception at Silver Fountain, 13533 Connecticut Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
