On Saturday, January 26, 2019, Marie Yvette Peraertz Bocage (Mami) passed into eternity and joined her late husband, Dr. Ducarmel Bocage (Papi) in what we can only hope and imagine was a beauteous reunion in paradise. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on July 25, 1931. Mami and Papi were married on December 22,1955 and enjoyed 48 great years of life and marriage. Originally, our little family settled in Washington, D.C. while Papi pursued a career in diplomacy and academia, in the intervening years the family made permanent roots in the Silver Spring, MD area. Mami was a devoted wife, mother sister, and career office professional, and she spent her life raising a family of three sons and worked for 25 years at a prominent, local insurance company. Mom enjoyed a lengthy and active retirement and relished visits from her family, proudly taking care of her home, attending daily Mass, and insisting that all the leaves had to be raked from her front lawn throughout the fall season.
Her immediate survivors include Jean-Philippe, Yves-Georges Herve, Georges-Edouard, their respective spouses (Donna and Nicole), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, and a vast network
of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Au revoir Mami et Papi, on se vera plus tard!
Friends and family members are invited to join us at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD, at 9:30 am for a viewing and funeral Mass which will follow immediately thereafter at 10:00 am.
Her interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery located in Aspen Hill, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Howard University - Economics/Social Studies Department.
