YVONNE MUNDA ANTOINETTE THOMPSON
Yvonne Munda Antoinette Thompson was born on April 5, 1948 to Albert Jerome Momoh and Louisa Bull in Mattru Jong, Sierra Leone.
On the death of Yvonne’s mother, at a very tender age, she was brought to Freetown to stay with her maternal aunt, Mrs. Dolly Williams and her husband Mr. Tommy Williams.
In her teenage years she attended the St. Joseph’s Convent briefly and most of her secondary school years at the Harford School for Girls, where she flourished as a student-athlete in track and field and volleyball.
On completion of her secondary school years, she worked briefly at the Elections Office, before proceeding to the United States in 1970. It was here that she met her husband Raymond Bamidele Thompson, Sr. on her first day of arrival, a relationship which lasted for half a century.
They were married on August 10, 1974 and produced two wonderful children, Yolanda and Raymond Jr.
Yvonne attended the Washington Technical Institute, currently the University of the District of Columbia. She worked at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Washington D.C. and the World Bank, prior to entering the healthcare field, where she spent most of her life caring for the elderly.
The tender loving care she demonstrated to the elderly has left an unforgettable mark and up till her passing she was being recognized by the relatives of those elderly for whom she cared.
Yvonne is survived by her husband, Raymond Sr. children: Yolanda and Raymond Jr. Grandchildren: Kalei, Raymond 3rd and Peyton, who fondly refer to her as Baja, a name given to Yvonne by her first granddaughter Kalei. Yvonne always referred to Peyton as Yeama, Yvonne’s mother’s name. Sisters: Daisy Johnson, Teresa Momoh, Jane Momoh and Victoria Momoh. Cousins: Festina Kemokai, Evan Williams, Enitan McCarthy and Shegu McCarthy and a multitude of nephews and nieces.
