Zenobia Antionette Rickford age 78 of Lanham, MD departed life on Monday, January 16 in Bowie, MD of natural causes. She was the daughter of Ellwood J. and Hazel Z. Boyd, born to them on February 6, 1944.
Zenobia leaves behind one brother, Obasi Haki Akan, Ph.D. and his wife Lynn. Zenobia also leaves behind her 2 sons Trevor R. Rickford and Dr. Marc S. Rickford their wives Melody R Rickford and Katharine C. Rickford. Zenobia also leaves behind four grandchildren, Sydney A. Rickford, Quentin J. Rickford, Trevor M. Rickford and Joshua B. Rickford. In addition, she left behind several nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends.
Zenobia was educated in Washington, D.C. and a graduate of Howard University with a degree in Fine Art. She was an art teacher in the District of Columbia on the Secondary level for 38 years until her retirement in 2002. During her teaching career, she was voted in twice, and received the Principal’s award as “Teacher of the Year” in 1988 and 2002. She has taught and presented in various Art workshops for the Washington Teacher’s Union Organization. Upon her retirement, Zenobia took a position at the Seed Boarding Charter School from 2002 to 2004, while teaching art at Seed, she devised and developed an art program, which was associated with the Corcoran School Art Gallery of Washington D.C. She has been juried into several galleries and has done solo, group and invitational exhibitions and has been awarded many accolades and is published in “Howard University’s Eight Decades of Art”. She has exhibited from 1966 to present throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area and beyond. Zenobia also had her work displayed at a showing at the United States Embassy in Rome, Italy.
