I'm so sorry to hear of Ellen's death. We became friends almost immediately when be both started teaching in 1969. Ellen and Carl were the soul of patience teaching me to play bridge -- a passtime that occupies a very important part in my life to this day. Ellen also taught me that vegetables did not have to be cooked to pulp to be ejoyed and that beef need not be incinerated to be safe to eat. Quite a change from Iowa cooking.... Ellen brought an unpretentious dignity to life, living, as she somewhat ironically would say, "in genteel poverty."

My loving thoughts are with her family at this terribly sorrowful time.

May all of Ellen's family and friends be blessed with many warm memories. She was an honorable woman to be sure & will be missed by many.
