Every summer Joanne would come back to Chicago and I wondered why wasn't she here, I called about a month ago asking her this and she replied She wasn't feeling well.   She was having surgery and I wished her well and I 'll keep in touch.  NO=No= No this couldn't have happened to feisty,charming, smart, outgoing, helpful, generous and so-so kind Joanne.  For this young newlywed that lived next door on South Shore Drive she was my help.  You Joanne were a wonderful friend to us and I will always remember your kindness and huge smile.  And you made Stu a happy man and he made you a happy woman.  Isn't that a wonderful thing to remember.

Dear Lynne:

I am seated in front of my computer, staring at the screen, and trying to get my arms around what I want to say. Though I last saw Jo Anne at one of our very early South Shore reunions and never stayed in touch since graduation, I am today filled with profound sadness and an unusual sense of loss, not to mention confrontation of my own mortality.

When my family moved to South Shore in 1958, I was , without question, the shortest boy in my class at Bradwell. Jo Anne, as I remember, was one of the tallest in 7th and 8th grade. Our family moved into a first floor apt. at 7608 S. Phillips and, as I recall, the Rogers family moved into the second floor apt. As a shy little boy at that time, I thought Jo Anne was beautiful and , as I recall, she had a lovely dark complexion at that time. As it turned out, she was the very first girl I ever took out on a date. I laugh now when I think about it, not only because of the height difference but also because my father had to drive us to the movie and take us home.

She will always have a special place in my life and she was a really good friend to me at a time when a newcomer to South Shore needed one.

May she rest in peace and I hope your family can find comfort in my words.
