Dear Daryl,

It's been 17 years since I left Deerfield and now I see almost 3 years since Ryan has passed.  No doubt you won't see this but I need to write that over the years I have thought about him so many times and wondered how he was and how all of you were. I still tell stories of how funny he could be and can still see the looks he would give me, his 1st grade teacher, when he wasn't so happy with what I was telling him to do. But that smile.... A few times over the years I've tried to google him or you and now I find this.  I would have been so sorry for you then and am still sorry for the void you must still feel now. Obviously Ryan touched so many hearts if I am still thinking of him almost 20 years later, several states away.

Dear Kaplans,

I am so, so sorry to hear about Ryan. My heart is heavy and I grieve with you over your devastating loss. I will always remember how kind, gentle, peaceful, and loving Ryan was. He was one of the friendliest, sweetest boys I have ever had the privilege of teaching. May you find comfort in knowing how many untold number of lives Ryan touched in such a wonderful and profound way.

Dear Kaplans- My deepest sympathies to you and your family during this difficult time. I was blessed to know Ryan as a teacher, although I think it is safe to say that he really taught me. I will always remember him- his positive attitude and his personal strength were a true gift to all he met.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I hear this news.  Ryan was such a wonderful person that created a great place in the hearts of those he met.  He kept you hip with popular culture, he kept you green the earth and he always kept you on your toes with his pranks and jokes.  Your family is in my thoughts during this extremely difficult time.
