Barbara Elaine Smith Coffin was born on October 21, 1938. She was the youngest of two daughters of Charles Wilber Smith and Glennis Neal Haines Smith of Skowhegen, Maine. She was taken to the Skowhegen First Church of the Nazarene as an infant then later joined the Nazarene Church on May 11, 1952. Barbara remained a faithful servant of God through the Church of the Nazarene her whole life. She passed in her home having been attended to by her son and daughter in law for the past year of illness. She went to be with the Lord on September 4, 2023.
Barbara was raised on a sheep farm in Skowhegen. She helped her father raise and show sheep at the fair. She won many ribbons at fairs through the 4H. She graduated from Skowhegen Area High School in 1956. There she was active in band and choir, playing the baritone and sang alto. She played the horn and sang in the church until she was nearly 70 years old.
In the church Barbara was active on the church board and many other committees, cooking for potlucks, and was an avid prayer warrior.
Barbara met her husband Clyde Paul Coffin through the church. A friendship started but shortly after that Clyde entered into the Army. From then on they wrote letters back and forth until they wed in 1959, after his discharge. In 1960 they had their son Neil, and then in 1961 they had their daughter Terri.
After Clyde passed on August 21, 2010 Barbara took the opportunity to travel to different states with multiple friends to sightsee and reunite with family.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Clyde, father Charles, mother Glennis, and sister Edith Kelly. She is survived by Neil and Pam Coffin, Frank and Terri Johnson, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, dog Sadie, as well as her loving friends and family around the country.
