SKOWHEGAN – Barbara L. Griffeth, 84, passed away on January 24, 2019 with her family at her side. She was born May 12, 1934 in Augusta the daughter of Myron Kenney and Katherine Atwood. Barbara attended Skowhegan Schools and married George Griffeth on November 6, 1954. He died in 1980. She worked at many jobs including local shoe shops and she was a waitress. She worked for many years at Woodlawn Nursing Home, and she worked for Tom McCarthy for 20 seasons at the Central Maine Wreath. As a Notary Public for 42 years, Barbara performed many weddings.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Skowhegan for many years. Barbara served as president of the Auxiliary and as District president. She was happiest around her family which she loved very much. She really looked forwards to the family BBQs.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents; infant son, Michael; husband, George Griffeth; grandsons, Jason and Greg; sister, Becky Burns; brother, Erlin Howes; half-brother, Mike Kenney; and many aunts uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her three children, Alan Griffeth and his wife Linda of Skowhegan, Cathy Griffeth of Athens, George Griffeth and his wife Theresa of Athens; stepson, Lester and his wife Tina; daughter-in-law, Theohelen Griffeth; four half-sisters, Carolyn Bowring and her husband Butch, Rita Corson, Judy Turner and husband Jeff and Pam Nixon; grandsons, Allen and his wife Sonya, Chuck and his wife Michelle, Lennie, Jason, and Jeremy; great grandchildren, Teagan, Dalton, Amber, Mike, Zach, Joey, Isaac, Terryn, Lexi, Isiah, Bailey, Dylan, Danny, Jake; two special cousins and very special friends (you know who you are); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, January 30 at the Skowhegan Federated Church, 13 Island Ave., Skowhegan with Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Family and friends are invited to stay at church share in a time of fellowship with refreshments after the service. Interment will be in the spring at East Skowhegan Cemetery.
